Ofsted Report 2017

The Stonehenge School celebrates another Good Ofsted judgement

Staff and pupils at The Stonehenge School are celebrating after Ofsted inspectors confirmed the school is still Good.  Inspectors visited the school in April and published their final report today.  Her Majesty’s Inspector (HMI) James Sage complimented pupils for being “great ambassadors for the school, who are smart, polite, respectful and a joy to talk to. They behave extremely well and contribute to the school’s ambitious and aspirational culture.”

The inspection team confirmed the school continues to provide a good quality of education and praises the strong leadership at the school which provides a clear sense of direction and ambition.  The report recognizes that “pupils are very well cared for and that ensuring pupils are safe and well looked after is at the heart of everything the school does.”   Pupils are taught well and inspectors found they “make good progress across a wide range of subjects, and make strong progress in English and mathematics.”

To improve even further inspectors advised pupils that some need to improve their attendance, as pupils who are persistently absent do not achieve as well as other pupils at the school.

Kelly Godwin, Chair of Governors and Head Teacher Nigel Roper said : “We are delighted the good quality of education provided by the school has been recognized for the fifth consecutive inspection.  To retain a Good grading for 13 years consecutively is an impressive achievement particularly in the difficult financial climate schools operate in now.  The inspection report clearly recognizes the school as a safe, ambitious and friendly community and staff and pupils alike are delighted that their achievements have been acknowledged.”

The school currently has 650 pupils on roll but applications for Year 7 entry have been over subscribed in both of the last two years.  A £6.5 million building extension is planned later this year to cope with increasing demand for places.
